Team Training Team training is the method of training we see most. This method consists of going out and training with a few of your buddies or your team. It is very enjoyable and it will allow you to learn very much very quickly. However, there are a few drawbacks to this style. You will sometimes be talked into dangerous situations that you are not physically or mentally capable of. In addition to this you will not get the full experience that Parkour or Freerunning can bring. Often times you will not feel the fear in the same way that you would if you were to be training alone, the fear is usually lessened when training in a group. This may sound like a good thing but fear is an important factor in building character and becoming a responsible traceur or traceuse. Solo Training
Solo Training is more rare than some other methods but it has some noticeable benefits. This is one of my favorite method due to its spiritual qualities and the beautiful nature of it. If you train alone you will be forced to overcome obstacles with no help from others, it will be a true test of what you can and cannot do. You must always be aware that you are alone so if you injure yourself there may be no one around to help you, make sure to always carry a first aid kit and a phone if possible. If you decided to train alone you will progress slower but you will develop your own personal style which will set you apart from others. This training style will make aware of your strengths and weaknesses, through this you will understand what techniques you should train and which ones you should take it easy on. Use this method to gain confidence in your everyday life knowing you are able to tackle challenges without need of assistance from others. Jamming Jamming is by far the most exhilarating form of training. A jam by definition is a meetup of traceurs from far and wide to train together and to meet new people. I usually go to a jam accompanied by a few of my buddies, we then proceed to get to know some of the other traceurs before jamming the day away. Jams are always beneficial to your Parkour skills and they are a great opportunity to learn new moves or to pass on what you already know to the other traceurs you meet. I would recommend going to a jam near you as soon as possible. If there are no jams planned that are reasonably close to you then take the initiative and organize one yourself. Training Variations These following blurbs explain different ways to mix up your training in order to get the greatest benefit. They can be applied to team training, solo training, or jam training. Conditioning When you focus on conditioning you will spend most of your time doing simple workouts in order to become a more capable traceur. Conditioning is great if you are just starting out in Parkour and want to get fitter in order to perform to the highest level of your ability. Here is a link to a page that explains some of the simple conditioning exercises you should implement into your training. Drilling Drilling consists of repeating a move many times. We do this to become more comfortable with the move and to become stronger in that aspect of our training. An example of drilling would be doing a set number of precisions, this exercise would improve our familiarity with precisions as well as increasing our overall jump distance. Drilling is good once you learn the proper technique for a move, if you drill a move with improper technique then you will pick up bad habits. Raw Raw training is the most simple and primitive form of training. While using this form you should forget all the technical moves you have learned and just move naturally. This style is best for getting in touch with yourself and learning how your body works. By becoming familiar with how your body works it will be easier for you to learn new moves in the future. The simple definition of this technique is to act like a wild animal. Technical Technical training is very useful if you want to step your game up to the next level. It's pretty much putting the finishing touches on your moves. The best way to do this is to film yourself training. You then can review the film to see if you are performing the moves properly. Be sure to look out for small changes in your technique that could make your moves more efficient or more attractive. This style of training is highly recommended for anyone who wants more than just a good time out of Parkour, this is for the people who want to make Parkour their career. (I will be covering how to make a career out of Parkour next week.) To Wrap Up I hope these techniques are beneficial to you and your training, I wish you all the very best. Thank you for your time and be sure to tune in next week. -Dameon
