Today I will be explaining how to turn Parkour or Freerunning into your job. I have not yet accomplished this feat but I know many others who have, I will be pulling from their wise words of wisdom in order to give you the best advice that I can.
It is widely believed that Parkour and Freerunning are pure disciplines that should not be used to make money, I agree with this. But I know that it is okay to make money off of these disciplines as long as it is your passion in life. We are all humans who need to put food on the table. To get this food you need money. What better way to earn money than doing what you love? So before you commit to making this your career, ask yourself: Is this really what I want in life, and am I willing to make large sacrifices in order to achieve this? If you still are commited then read on.
the easiest way to make money from Parkour is to get a normal job that incorporates the skills you have learned from Parkour into it. Such as a policeman, fireman, or stuntman. These normal jobs are a lot less liberating than actually training Parkour so it may not be very enjoyable. But then again attaining these jobs is pretty easy in comparison to some of the other careers.
Teaching Parkour is another reasonable job. It is slightly harder than a normal job due to the fact that you must be a master of all that you teach. You are usually required to acquire all sorts of fancy certificates such as First Aid of A.D.A.P.T. Luckily teaching Parkour is similar to training it so this would be a very enjoyable career choice.
Now let's move on to one of the more tricky career options: getting sponsored. Getting sponsored will result in a large amount of income and a very enjoyable career. However, there are no set instructions on how to get sponsored. But as a general rule: do not try to find a sponsor. Instead focus on improving your skills and gaining a presence in the Parkour community. Sooner or later someone will notice you and they may decide to sponsor you. But until then, be patient!
Making money with a team will require the most hard work on your part. But it will be worth it. There are a lot of ways to gain currency with a team. Firstly you must become a well known team (this is the hard part). After that you can do a few things. You could start a clothing line if you're the artsy type (most teams do this). Or you could go around performing for money like 3Run does (probably one of the more exciting money making methods). If you are very lucky your whole team may get sponsored, but just like I said before: don't obsess over finding a sponsor, let them come to you.
Life should not be a hallow pursuit of money, but we all need to make a living. The careers listed above are all great options for a passionate Traceur. I want to make it clear that I do not endorse taking advantage of this beautiful art form for money, don't be another UFF. However, if you have good intentions and intend to give back to the Parkour community then feel free to pursue one of these career options. Thank you for taking the time to read this and tune in next week for my article on the must have Parkour app for any serious traceur. Until then Peace&Parkour.
