Headway PArkour Blog
Today I will be explaining how to turn Parkour or Freerunning into your job. I have not yet accomplished this feat but I know many others who have, I will be pulling from their wise words of wisdom in order to give you the best advice that I can. Disclaimer
It is widely believed that Parkour and Freerunning are pure disciplines that should not be used to make money, I agree with this. But I know that it is okay to make money off of these disciplines as long as it is your passion in life. We are all humans who need to put food on the table. To get this food you need money. What better way to earn money than doing what you love? So before you commit to making this your career, ask yourself: Is this really what I want in life, and am I willing to make large sacrifices in order to achieve this? If you still are commited then read on. Normal Job the easiest way to make money from Parkour is to get a normal job that incorporates the skills you have learned from Parkour into it. Such as a policeman, fireman, or stuntman. These normal jobs are a lot less liberating than actually training Parkour so it may not be very enjoyable. But then again attaining these jobs is pretty easy in comparison to some of the other careers. Coaching Teaching Parkour is another reasonable job. It is slightly harder than a normal job due to the fact that you must be a master of all that you teach. You are usually required to acquire all sorts of fancy certificates such as First Aid of A.D.A.P.T. Luckily teaching Parkour is similar to training it so this would be a very enjoyable career choice. Sponsorship Now let's move on to one of the more tricky career options: getting sponsored. Getting sponsored will result in a large amount of income and a very enjoyable career. However, there are no set instructions on how to get sponsored. But as a general rule: do not try to find a sponsor. Instead focus on improving your skills and gaining a presence in the Parkour community. Sooner or later someone will notice you and they may decide to sponsor you. But until then, be patient! Team Making money with a team will require the most hard work on your part. But it will be worth it. There are a lot of ways to gain currency with a team. Firstly you must become a well known team (this is the hard part). After that you can do a few things. You could start a clothing line if you're the artsy type (most teams do this). Or you could go around performing for money like 3Run does (probably one of the more exciting money making methods). If you are very lucky your whole team may get sponsored, but just like I said before: don't obsess over finding a sponsor, let them come to you. Closing Life should not be a hallow pursuit of money, but we all need to make a living. The careers listed above are all great options for a passionate Traceur. I want to make it clear that I do not endorse taking advantage of this beautiful art form for money, don't be another UFF. However, if you have good intentions and intend to give back to the Parkour community then feel free to pursue one of these career options. Thank you for taking the time to read this and tune in next week for my article on the must have Parkour app for any serious traceur. Until then Peace&Parkour. -Dameon

Great question, there is no specific age for evolving Parkour into your full time career; However, the more you train and progress, the sooner you will be given the opportunity it's to do so.

If I were in the position to sponsor you I would gladly consider it but sadly I am not. Just keep training and releasing content regularly, best of luck Pablo!

I'm a single traceur at my place and I've trained for a year and a half and I'm really good at. Its my passion and my love and I would love to get a job related to Parkour. Its my full time activity and I would love to get sponsored. At my place only 10 out of 100 know parkour and 2 out of those 10 really practice it. If you could give me some pointers to get a good sponsor other than those up there I would totally appreciate it. Thanks. Please reply me at my e-mail: [email protected]

i'm a 24 year traceur. I've been training for about 12 years. I coach gymnastics and tumbling in the evenings, and i teach high school math in the mornings. I'm very confident in my skills and abilities. I've been doing this for the love of it before the word parkour was introduced and before i knew what freerunning was. I was wondering several things. Are the A.D.A.P.T. certifications required to teach/coach freerunning and parkour? Does anyone know of companies actively searching for traceurs? I live in a small town, making a living is hard. Two jobs difficult, i would like to focus on what i love, but making money is a necessity.

If your anywhere around Colorado check out APEX movement. Great people! They have been starting up Parkour gyms and have at least three I believe, maybe more. You may have to move not sure, but you might be able to get a position with them.

ADAPT qualifications are not required to teach Parkour but they will surely help your chances of being hired; You seem to have quite the background so I think you will do just fine with or without it, it's really your choice. I'm not sure of any companies searching for coaches but any big name Parkour team is often looking for people to teach at their gyms. I recommend looking for a gymnastics facility near you and proposing the idea of Parkour classes (indoor or outdoor), then go to work advertising the classes and create a following of loyal students, best of luck!

Hey this is great, I absolutely love it! I'm a 16 year old traceur and I've been training for 2 years. I live in Beijing China and I occasionally train with a professional team here called "City Monkeys" I'm not sure if you have any knowledge of them but they have been in a few tournaments that have happened here in China. I was wondering if I taught parkour would I be getting decent income to live on? Also if I would need another job besides those shown here, what would you recommend? Also what do you do for a living?

Teaching Parkour would make for a decent income assuming you work at a higher end gym. I would reccomend pursuing whatever you love as your job, anything is possible with dedication and hard work. I would reccomend reading these articles for info on a few other jobs:

Well first of all you have to be at least 18. Then you need to get your EMT license, then you need to be trained to be a fire fighter

There is no age range friend! The adapt qualification requires that you be 16 but there is still a lot more you can do before then!

I am 14 years old and absolutely love parkour and free running. I am hoping in the future I can get a job teaching parkour and free running. I was just wondering how much a parkour and free running instructor makes per year, and how to become one.

For sure! Getting a job at a Parkour gym is a fantastic opportunity even if it is only an internship. Be sure to take the initiative by contacting the gym and making sure this is all possible c:

Of course you can be a champ at your height! And just stay true to your belief, even if it means complying with your dad for a while, never lose your truth.

Hey Dameon Byker! I've been very dedicated to my training in parkour for nearly three years now, and I would LOVE to get paid for doing it. However, my concern is that I don't want something that's a passion of mine to die out because now I'm only concerned about the money, forcing my progress to get food on my plate out of worry and fret, and not out of love and joy. I thought about teaching it before but how would I get started on that?

Hey I'm 16 and what if someone wanted to do parkour for living cause parlour is kinda like risking your life so shouldn't you make money not only that but parkour is very enjoyable. I'm confused cause people on internet keep saying that you cant get paid for can you or can you noy?

I have been training parkour with my best friend for 3 years and we have started to run an after school club to teach others with the help of a parkour instructor ( who is also a teacher at our school ). And he has said before we leave school he would take us to London to do a five day course to get a qualification in instructing parkour and free running. but I don't know if I should make videos or not. And how to get further in parkour .

Do you remember that time you looked at that old man and said I feel bad for him and you threw a couple dollars at him but then it fell down the drain and you laughed at him. What I say to that is your an as5hole . Some would say we need less people like you but I say the opposite. I had a dream about all the worlds problem causers and they had pencils shoved in their eye sockets . I have a strange feeling that you don't know what im talking about or why I'm talking about it . Let me explain . It was a distraction . That's all you stupid peices of sh1ts need to know . I am a N4Z1!!

Hey Rahul! ADAPT U.K. Certification is a good place to start, it's a class to acquire a certificate in order to teach parkour and free running. This would make getting a job in a gym as a trainer much easier. Leave a Reply. |
